The Grey Mountains
Otherwise known as Ered Mithrin, this is a large mountain range in the north of Rhovanion. In times past these mountains were home to Dwarves but now most of the strongholds have been abandoned or raided by Dragons.

The Iron Hills
Located east of the Lonely Mountain, these hills are rich in many minerals but most especially iron, and are home to exiled Dwarves from the clan of Longbeards, or Durin's Folk.

Lothlórien
A place of great beauty, Lothlórien is home to Elves and is ruled over by Celeborn and Galadriel. It is also a place of safety as Galadriel uses the power of her Ring, Nenya, to safeguard the forest from evil.

Mirkwood
Formerly known as Greenwood, this is a dense and mysterious forest that is home to Elves who are ruled by King Thranduil. The Enchanted River flows through Mirkwood, its magical properties cause deep sleep and amnesia. The forest is also the home of Giant Spiders, who have a tendency to reside in dark and dangerous places.

Dol Guldur
On a hill in south western Mirkwood stands the abandoned fortress of Dol Guldur. Originally known as Amon Lanc, Dol Guldur is now the stronghold of The Necromancer and beneath its foreboding structure sprawls numerous dungeons and underground passages.

Erebor
The Lonely Mountain, located in northwest Rhovanion, was inhabited by the Dwarves of Durin's Folk until the arrival of Smaug in T.A. 2770, when they were cast out, losing both their homes and their immense wealth.

Lake-town
A town built directly on a wooden pier extending over the Long Lake. It lies directly south of the Lonely Mountain, which looms ominously over the city. Lake-town is, however, quite prosperous, as it does much business with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Further Afield
Rhovanion is home to a number of other places, such as Carrock, the Brownlands, Dimrill Dale and Dagorlad. Important rivers in the region include the Anduin or Great River, the Celduin or Running, and the Carnen or Redwater.
